Wonderland – the hugely popular Scottish wedding band are, this year, celebrating their 20th year in the biz/on the road/in the van/on the bus/in the tool shed etc etc and they did this in style with a small get together, nay, huge fucking extravaganza of quite big proportions down my neck of the woods at Inverness Ironworks. I say they – Wonderland is the day job of Arisaig musician Steve Brown augmented by a harem of pro chanteausemifiers (and mincer). Also on the bill were his part-time jobs, paper rounds and slight dalliances as well as friends and acquaintances. What ? No Shillelagh Head or NG Collective I hear you cry, a pained whimper. Not even a chorus of The Stovie Song ?!!?!!?!? A gawddamn traversteeeeee I tells ya. Most of that will make more sense if you’re a Banffer. Oh you’re not ? Nae luck – this is a bit of a ‘vanity’ post about me mates !! 🙂
There was John Coletta the Bruce Willis tribute – sorry John, an Elvis tribute and a Rush tribute as well as good honest rock n fucking roll from the brilliant Seeing Red featuring the vocals of Angie Townshend.
Gotta mention Angie as I finally had the pleasure of meeting her after years of paths not crossing. She is about to head for another gruelling session of chemo to hammer that bastard cancer thing. Monies raised on the night went to Maggies and Steve dedicated the whole night to her !! They played a blinder and there must have been a lot of dust in the air judging by the red eyes in the audience !! Aye, it was one of those nights. Everyone played a blinder !!
I wont waffle on as it was a kinda had-to-be-there sort of night but I will post photos as it was also the first outing for my new ‘toy’ – a Nikon D7100, thank you Santa. These pics are from the first 4 hours of the bash – early bath for the dontblog family due to babysitters etc. Missed Maeve O Boyle though – bugger !! Here’s to another few years and roll on the 21st anniversary bash.
