The negativity started well before the announcement. What utterly spoilt brats we breed up here as far as the music and events on offer go. (In a points-of-view style voice) Mr Young Punter (very young I think) from Lossiemouth posted on a local faecesbook page that the upcoming Belladrum announcement tonight would be “a bag oh shite, same as every year!”. The worst thing about that was that no-one questioned that opinion. Nobody seemed bothered by it. It was left unchecked. Not even the page moderator bothered to mention it. If that had been about Celtic or Rangers there would have been no end to the ‘banter‘. No doubt, as with the original announcement, the social networks will be filled to the gunwales with more bitching and moaning about this band being shite and that singer being rubbish and the line-up this year is pants !! Its sold out three years running – thats a fair amount of folk voting with their feet !
10 years ago we had no Bella or Rockness. No Hoots, No Hatters. No Ironworks. Next week we have Brew at the Bog. Weve had Jocktoberfest last year and like it or not we have goNORTH up here too. Loopallu is an hour up the road and go that wee bit further you now have B-Fest and the Newie making major headroads into the gig scene !! Those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head (HUGE SHOUT TO ROB ELLEN TOO). People you are now spoilt for choice – FACT !
Amazing line-ups, great events in some amazing venues and scenery and the product of a massive amount of hard work by a lot of passionate local people.
What the fuck do you people want ?? Clubland, The Voice and X-Factor ??? Tough Shit !! This is about Tartan Heart Festival 2012 !! Mon the Bella !
HERES WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING THIS YEAR DOWN BELLADRUM WAY !!
Legendary punk heroes Buzzcocks have been added to the line-up for the ninth Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival on 3rd & 4th August. With a string of hits such as ‘Ever Fallen In Love’ and ‘Harmony In My Head’ to their credit, the band are sure to have a wide appeal amongst the Bella crowd and will headline the Hothouse stage on the Friday night.
Los Angeles soul and rock band Vintage Trouble return for a second year to move your feet and rattle your ‘seat’. Also added to the bill are singer-songwriter Willy Mason as Friday night headliner on the Grassroots Stage and in a Scottish festival exclusive, smoky voiced folk and soul singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas will be making her first visit to the Tartan Heart.
They are joined by plaintive Newcastle sextet Lanterns On The Lake who fuse folk melodies with light electronic instrumentation – very much the ‘in-thing’ at the moment Im led to believe – and Carrbridges own Rachel Sermanni makes a return to the festival after last year’s triumphant appearance. Skye electronic fusion act Niteworks and Ullapool’s Grousebeater Sound System are also appearing.
Six piece Mad Dog Mcrea bring their folk-rock, gypsy-jazz ‘shake your ass’ mix to Bella for the first time as do Red Sky July, an alt-country band formed by Texas guitarist Ally McErlaine and wife Shelly Poole of Alisha’s Attic fame. We saw them earlier this year in Madhatters with Willie and Tabs in support – great wee band ! Theres a bit and some photos somewhere in the archives if youre interested 🙂
Glasgow ska band Bombskare play the main stage, tribute band MacFloyd (featuring the very talented Viv Scotson on backing vocals) play the whole of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ plus my old pal Gerry Jablonski and his Electric Band also return for a second year having played Rob Ellens Potting Shed Stage last year. Hes had a busy year so far touring Europe and Im reckoning Gerry will be Grass Roots on Friday 3rd. Tidy !!
Also piss-in-my-pants excited to announce the return of mighty mighty mighty Inverness band Little Mill Of Happiness. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasss !!
I have no complaints about this announcement or the first announcement – I AM A HAPPY BUNNY !! Martin Tarr of Swamp Radio called Belladrum a “Banter Festival” – cracking description. See you down the sunken garden in August for some major banter – same as last year, same as next year !!
